1. Introduction

Metaphysics Insights ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal data when you use our fortune-telling and Chinese metaphysics platform.

By using Metaphysics Insights, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. We comply with the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable data protection laws.

2. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Account data: Email address, display name (user-chosen, not your real name), and password (stored as a one-way hash).
  • Birth data: Date of birth, birth hour (Chinese double-hour), birth city, and gender. This data is essential for BaZi (Eight Characters) calculations and personalised readings.
  • Usage data: Daily readings, domain insights, monthly insights, journal entries, and reading streaks generated through your use of the platform.

We do not collect your real name, government ID, financial information (payment processing is handled by Stripe), or precise geolocation.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Core service: Your birth data is used to compute BaZi natal charts and generate personalised daily, monthly, and yearly readings using AI language models.
  • Authentication: Your email and password hash are used to verify your identity and maintain your session.
  • Personalisation: Journal entries and reading history are used to enhance the relevance of your insights over time.
  • Service improvement: Aggregated, anonymised usage statistics help us improve our algorithms and user experience.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secured servers hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the Asia-Pacific (Singapore) region. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Passwords hashed with bcrypt (one-way, not reversible)
  • JWT session tokens with 30-day expiry
  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Server-side access controls and firewall rules

5. Third-Party Services

We share limited data with the following third-party services:

  • Anthropic (Claude AI): Your birth data (without email or identity) is sent to generate personalised narrative readings. Anthropic does not retain this data beyond the API request.
  • Stripe: Payment information is processed directly by Stripe. We do not store card numbers or payment details on our servers.

6. AI Processing Disclosure

We use Anthropic Claude AI to generate personalised readings based on your birth data. Your birth date, birth hour, and gender are sent to Anthropic's API. No personally identifiable information (such as your email address or display name) is included in AI requests. Anthropic does not use API data for training. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details.

7. Your Rights

Under applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you. You can do this from your Settings page using the "Download My Data" feature.
  • Rectification: Update your display name and birth hour in Settings. Birth date cannot be changed as it would invalidate your cached readings.
  • Erasure: Permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings. This action is irreversible.
  • Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable JSON format.
  • Withdraw consent: You may delete your account at any time to withdraw consent for data processing.

Rights by Jurisdiction

  • Singapore (PDPA): Access, correction, withdrawal of consent.
  • Malaysia (PDPA 2010): Access, correction, withdrawal of consent. Cross-border transfers subject to approval.
  • European Union (GDPR): Access, erasure, portability, restriction of processing, objection, and rights relating to automated decision-making.
  • United Kingdom (UK GDPR + DPA 2018): Access, erasure, portability, restriction, objection. Contact the ICO (ico.org.uk) for complaints.
  • United States (CCPA/CPRA): Right to know, right to delete, right to opt-out of sale of personal information, and right to non-discrimination.
  • Japan (APPI): Access, correction, deletion.
  • South Korea (PIPA): Access, correction, deletion, suspension of processing. Separate consent required for overseas transfer.
  • Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam: Access, correction, deletion.

8. Do Not Sell

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your personal data for cross-context behavioural advertising. Your data is used solely to provide and improve the Metaphysics Insights service.

9. Cross-Border Data Transfers

Your data is stored on servers in Singapore (AWS ap-southeast-1). Birth data is processed by Anthropic (United States) under contractual safeguards. By using this service, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions outside your country of residence, subject to appropriate data protection measures.

10. Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and relevant authorities within 72 hours as required by applicable law. Notification will be sent to the email address associated with your account.

11. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days, including all readings, insights, and journal entries.

Anonymised, aggregated statistical data that cannot be linked back to you may be retained indefinitely for service improvement purposes.

12. Cookies

We use a single essential cookie (fatedaily_session) to maintain your authentication session. This is an HTTP-only, secure cookie that expires after 30 days. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or advertising cookies.

13. Children's Privacy

This service is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from persons under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at hello@myreading.life so we can delete it.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Metaphysics Insights after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
